I know, I know. It's been over a month - again - since I posted. Sorry, Mom.
Honestly, it's mostly been because there hasn't been much to post about. Things have been pretty low-key lately. But it seems they're picking up.
Today I got invited to my third wedding for this year.
It'll be the first one I go to, but the third I'm invited to.
My friends are getting expensive. Luckily, I was invited to this one really last minute (it's next weekend. Luckily, I have a rack full of cute dresses to pick from), so I probably won't be expected to get them a gift, especially since I've already kicked in for the gift we're getting them from everyone at the office. This is a work friend's wedding, if I didn't make that clear.
It's weird getting older. Everyone is getting married all the time, and I already have friends that are having babies. I can't put my finger on what's weird about it, it just sort of is.

A nice Thursday
It's been a really nice day.
There was minor drama at work today, and everything was a little bit nutty. There's an open house this weekend, so we're preparing for that. We all spent the last hour putting together folders for the guests that are coming, and it turned into an hour of us barely paying attention to the folders while we quoted Arrested Development and Better Off Ted and made plans for our holiday party. I really like my coworkers.
The holidays are coming. I love this time of year. It's cold out, and my cheeks are constantly pink, and my hair is all staticky and flying all around (that part I don't love as much, but there it is), and everything is peppermint chocolate flavored. My favorite flavor.
I was the only one who showed up at yoga today, so it was like I got a private lesson. The teacher is really nice, so I very much enjoyed it. Even though after such a silly day at work, my brain was a little hyper for yoga. Still a nice day, though.

Sleepy ramblings
Oh, so very tired.
But still making progress. And not giving up.
Although I wish I had something other than NaNoWriMo to blog about.
I had trapeze class tonight. We learned a few moves that had us rolling over our hips across the bar. I don't think I'm explaining that right, but my brain just wants to go to sleep. Anyway, I'm going to have some odd bruises on my hips tomorrow. But odd bruises are all part of this trapeze thing. It comes with the territory of hanging upside down eight feet in the air, occasionally supported largely by one small section of your body. Like one ankle and one hand.
It's amazing how quickly you develop more of a tolerance for these bearable kinds of pain. It's worth it to do things so many people wouldn't even have the guts to try. I could go on and on about bravery and stuff, but I think I'll just go to bed.

I will sleep well tonight.
It's been a good weekend. I didn't do much, other than watch movies and type. And type and type.
But it's been good. Today I got caught up to where I felt comfortable. Still not quite where I'd like to be, but close enough that I can catch up to it much more easily. And close enough that I was ok with taking a break to go out for gelato and spicy cocoa. And I even allowed myself to knit for a little while.
I love that spicy cocoa so much. It played a larger part in me wanting to move back here than it probably should have. It's just so tasty.
Plus the barista guy that was working there has started to recognize me, so he gives me a medium and charges me for a small, since that's what I keep ordering. Yay barista guy!

Eventful
Tonight I am sitting at my kitchen counter with a couple of lamps on, reading blogs and listening to the bugs outside hurling themselves against the glass of our back door. They seem extra desperate to get in. Maybe it's because there's not much of a moon, so they want the light that much more. Or maybe I'm just not used to being up this later, or it being this quiet.
Things are happening in my little world. Big, exciting, slightly scary (mostly because of how quickly they're happening) things.
Things that soon I might even be able to get my head around enough to write about. But there is much to look forward to.

A low key Saturday
Last night I went to sleep to the sound of a nice steady, heavy rain, and this morning I've woken up to a gentle downfall. Are you all aware of how much I love rain? I love it thiiiiiiiiiiiiiis much. (Now is when you picture me with my arms waaaaaay out, as far as I can stretch them.) Add in a pot of caramel crème brûlée tea, and it's a lovely morning in my book.
I don't have a ton planned for today, but I still suspect it'll be a nice one. Tonight the Boy Creature and I are going out for crawfish with Dad and Stepmom, and Dad's bringing me his old bike, so I can stop feeling guilty for driving the half a mile to work. Yay! Although I suspect I will have to go out tomorrow to buy a helmet and a lock for it. But that's ok. I'm looking forward to being a bicycle girl. I've been reading lots of bike blogs like this one this week.
Other than that, it's just the usual fun around here. Reading, knitting, watching movies. We got La Dolce Vita from the library. I've never seen it, and I've been wanting to for years now. So that will probably happen tonight, maybe after dinner. Speaking of, if you've never tried crawfish, now is the time! They're in season right now. Go out and find yourself a seafood bar or a Razoo's and chow down. They're spicy and delicious and one of my favorite foods in the entire world. Having grown up with a mom from New Orleans means I look forward to them every year. So you should go try them.
Have a good weekend, guys.

Whoa, it's today!
So I didn't get around to thinking about blogging until late in the day yesterday. And then I was toddling around the house getting myself ready for my first day of work today! Yay! I hope it goes well. So you'll get more of an update later. Everybody have a good day, ok?

Belated birthday wishes
Two days ago, this blog turned one year old. I missed it, which is why I'm guiltily posting about it today. It hasn't been a bad year for the blog, but there are still other things I want done with it. Part of me suspects that me missing it's one-year anniversary is a telling sign. But maybe I'm being overly dramatic about a not-so-monumental day. It is a marvelously blustery day today, though, all gray and cold, and even a little bit rainy, just like I like it, and I am cozy inside our echo-y little house. There has been much reading and knitting, and I've enjoyed it. A lot.
But I'll still be glad to go back to Texas and get a job. I'm very much getting to the point that I've had just about enough of this sitting around waiting business.

NaBloPoMo success!
So it's the thirtieth of the month. I have blogged every day this month. And I have come to the conclusion that sometimes I just don't have much to say. Like today.
I liked blogging more often, and having to make myself think more about it and put more effort into it, but I sort of think I should probably only post when there's something to actually post about. And today is not one of those days. So I'm off.
Have a nice day.

Rainstorm
It's pouring down rain tonight in New Orleans. And while it mostly just means it's harder to see and people drive just as crazily as they do when it's not raining, I still like the rain. There wasn't nearly enough of it in San Diego. So I'm enjoying my night so far. It's not much to report, and I'm sure it doesn't make for terribly interesting blog reading, but we can't be thrilling all the time, now can we? So it'll do.

Plans and changes
So two days ago I finally told my mom that we're going to Fort Worth instead of staying in New Orleans. We're having a hard time finding jobs, and it doesn't really feel like where we want to be, even if it is just until one or both of us goes to grad school. And considering that I want to start grad school next fall, and one of them is in the DFW area, it kinda makes sense to just head that way.
This was a weird decision for me. The first time the Boy-Creature suggested it, I was caught way off guard, and was not prepared for it, and I got all freaked out and upset. I grew up in Arlington (right next door to Fort Worth), and spent my freshman year at TCU, where I was doing everything I could to transfer to an out-of-state school and get out of there as soon as possible. I never really wanted to go back, and I never even really considered it until now. So after the initial freakout, that's the plan.
It's weird, to be going back while trying to move forward at the same time. A part of me still isn't sure if this is what I want, but it's what we're doing. So wish us luck.

Scenes from an Italian coffeehouse
Tonight, the Boy-Creature and I are out at a coffeehouse, as we're growing tired of stealing wireless internet from the innocent neighbors. Plus, there was a near-hurricane that turned out not to be a hurricane yesterday, but it's still very windy, and we're having trouble getting a good enough signal. So we're out.
And as soon as we sat down, I started wishing I had brought something to write with. I only brought the basics: wallet, laptop, book, and lip gloss. So I am without my Moleskine, or my little notebook, or even a pen. It's dreadful. Luckily I've managed to wrest the laptop (MY laptop, I might add) from him. I really like this place. It's an Italian espresso cafe, and it's chock full of students. The Asian kids at the table directly next to us have biochemistry textbooks and little plastic containers of trail mix from Whole Foods to munch with their tea and juice and tiny cups of espresso. The blondes in UNO sweatshirts at the next table are drinking pink, frothy, iced things. The brunettes on the other side have textbooks and notebooks and papers spread all over the table, and there's a nicely-dressed young man drinking a glass of red wine and reading T.S. Eliot at the booth in the corner.
When I was still in college in Santa Fe and I had either a big block of reading or writing to do, I would go to the Starbucks on the Plaza and sit for hours, sipping chai and munching cookies or pumpkin bread or croissants. I've gotten a lot of work done in coffeehouses over the last five or six years. And here I am again, typing at a laptop and sipping some iced coffee thing with whipped cream and a caramel drizzle on top. It was pretty tasty, too

At Gram's house
Today I'm blogging at my Grandparents' house, on the computer that has been around since my junior year of high school. Just the fact that it still turns on is a testament to how little my mom likes to spend money on new things, if there's even a slight chance she can just fix the old one. Some of the old stuff doesn't actually get fixed, and it gets turned into something else. Outside, there is a three-legged bathtub holding up racks of plants. In addition to who knows what else.
I'm also typing on one of those old clicky keyboards that I don't even think they make anymore. People seem to prefer much quieter keyboards these days. And I type fast, and the noise is getting annoying, so I'm thinking it'll be a short post today.
It's just interesting hanging around this house, and seeing what has changed, and seeing the things that have never changed for as long as I can remember.
The other bit of news from today is that I can't get my laptop to find the wireless signal here, so I've actually been getting a little bit of writing done.
